The model and actor’s new book of essays is a fascinatingly solipsistic portrait of the tension between empowerment and objectification. Ratajkowski makes the allegations in her forthcoming book, My Body, The Times revealed. But, unlike Ratajkowski, we wouldn’t expect others to sympathise with us for putting ourselves first. The video and lyrics, which involve Thicke, 44, repeatedly singing, “I know you want it”, were accused of glorifying rape culture, leading to a ban in some nightclubs and university campuses. Plenty of us have been in similar situations, of course. It is reminiscent of the way dozens of Hollywood actresses, at the peak of #MeToo, condemned the despicable Harvey Weinstein and said they always knew he was a creep – yet they were all too happy to keep schtum about his misogyny at the time so they could pursue their careers. Yet she’s still happy to accept their favours, which, in one case, included ‘a free trip to Coachella… tickets to the festival, a place to stay, and a ride out to the desert in a limo bus’. On the one hand, she condemns and criticises them. There is something discomfiting, too, about Ratajkowski’s attitude to the sexist (and rather dangerous-sounding) male promoters, fixers and bookers she encounters. ‘The whole of the ocean stretched out before me’, she writes, ‘and yet I felt trapped’. At one point, Ratajkowski writes of how, while holidaying on an island, she realised that making money from a picture of her backside wasn’t particularly empowering. She is always at the mercy of men and the male gaze. She also seems to revel in her perceived lack of agency. This will result in a look that is striking without being overstimulating. Paint walls in tan or opt for tan leather sofas, and then add in hits of cobalt such as cobalt blue cushions or lampshades. If you are using cobalt blue as an accent shade, then tan is a great color choice for a base color. As a warm color, tan contrasts against cobalt blue but also serves to help balance out the intensity of cobalt because tan has a very natural tone to it. Tan is a color that hovers somewhere between a dark shade of beige and a light shade of brown, but it can also contain orange undertones that give it a slightly terracotta hue. This is a color scheme that also works well in a Moroccan-style kitchen by taking inspiration from Aztec prints and fabrics.Ĭhoose cobalt blue painted kitchen cabinets with gold handles and white countertops for a modern take on this style, then incorporate orange textiles in natural textures such as a distressed Aztec style rug and some terracotta pottery. Consider a peach suede upholstered armchair with a cobalt blue blanket draped over the back or peach silk curtains with cobalt blue tie-backs. Orange can look stark in some materials, but it offers a quirky modern vibe if used with luxury materials. Choose a vivid orange for a bright and intense color combination, or opt for a softer orange such as peach to create a more subtle style. OrangeĪs the complementary and contrasting color for blue, it makes sense that cobalt is one of the colors that match well with orange. Red and cobalt will look overstimulating if used together without a third color, so it’s important to select a neutral color for your base to prevent these colors from feeling like they are giving you a headache.Ī soft gray neutral will be a good main color to choose for this color scheme, and you can add touches of red and cobalt along with this, for example, a cobalt rug with a red trim or a red cushion on a cobalt chair. Red and blue contrast well against each other, especially warm orange-toned reds, because orange is the opposite color to blue on the color wheel. Here we look at ways to use cobalt blue in the home and which colors to use with it. The vibrant and potent nature of this color can make it a difficult shade to pair with other colors, but when used alongside complementary shades, it can make a stunning statement in interior decor. It is neither dark nor light and sits somewhere in the middle of blue shades. You can’t move in terms of game controls but you can physically duck and move within the scope of the roomscale tracking, which is actually a great demonstration of the technology as you crawl behind the virtual furniture and pop up for a surprise attack when an opponent seems distracted. The options are very limited – the whole game feels like it’s some sort of early access release rather than a full game – but in the simplest mode you and your team-mates are situated at one end of a saloon and have to shoot it out with a rival team at the other end. We’ve never heard of Dead And Buried I, but the sequel is a rather scrappy mix of cover-based and standard deathmatch multiplayer. Oculus themselves are the publisher for a number of their games, including this key multiplayer title. It’s actually quite hard, and has its own minor unlockables, which further justifies the already perfectly reasonable asking price. The story may be short but there’s also a multi-stage challenge mode where you have to fight remotes (which, again, is so much like the movies it almost made us weak at the knees with wish fulfilment) and other increasingly dangerous opponents. Speaking from a Star Wars nerd’s perspective the only thing we didn’t like was the sassy droid, who talks and acts only like a regular human, but the portrayal of Vader actually has some nuance to it, with some surprising moments of dialogue. The pacing of the fights feels right too, with tense seconds waiting for an attack and then a flurry of action. The combat’s secretly quite simple, relying almost solely on parrying in one of two directions, but the ability for enemies to crowd around, so you have to keep checking every direction for attackers, neatly disguises the fact. Not only can you deflect laser bolts but the lightsabre fights finally offer the kind of motion-controlled combat fans have been denied for years. Soon enough you get to wield a lightsabre and you’re transported into a Star Wars fan’s wet dream. The ability to walk around the virtual sets is a huge benefit of using Quest but the fact that the controllers are so accurate even more so. The Quest’s lack of power is clearly visible in some very low resolution textures and yet the overall effect is still stunning, with some very impressive virtual characters that feel believably solid and real. The sense of scale is extraordinary, as you stare up through your spaceship’s cockpit as a Star Destroyer looms into view or fly down to enter a giant underground city. It turns out you’re part of a bloodline that can unlock an ancient artefact on Mustafar (the lava planet from Revenge Of The Sith and Rogue One) that grants immortality. But what a 40 minutes that is.Ĭreated by a division of ILM, rather than a traditional game developer, the game is a stunning experience from the first second, as you play the role of a smuggler who unexpectedly finds themselves a captive of Darth Vader. Instead, it’s the start of an episodic series, the first of which offers barely 40 minutes of story gameplay. The jewel in Oculus Quest’s launch line-up isn’t available on any other headset, but it isn’t a full game. That will still limit what games can be released on it, but from this initial wave of titles that barely seems a problem. We reviewed the hardware itself last week and found that thanks to being completely wireless, roomscale tracking that can be set-up in seconds, and two very accurate Touch controllers, it more than compensates for its lack of graphical horsepower. Just because a game is available on Oculus Rift, or PlayStation VR, doesn’t mean it will work on the less powerful Quest, and yet it’s launch line-up of games is extremely impressive. Since the Oculus Quest is essentially a brand new video game format – a self-contained VR headset that doesn’t need to attach to a console or PC – that means it has to start from scratch with its games collection.
